Chapter 9 - A New Beginning

The proposal was not grand or public. It happened in the place where their story had truly begun—the sunlit living room of the Mercer mansion, under the warm glow of the afternoon sun.

Clara had just finished an art session with Emma, who was proudly showing off a painting of a large, happy family under a bright yellow sun.

"Clara," Grant said, stepping into the room. He looked nervous, but his eyes were filled with a steady, burning devotion.

Clara looked up, sensing the shift in the air. "Yes, Grant?"

Emma giggled, running over to stand next to her father, holding her hands behind her back.

Grant knelt down, not just to Clara's level, but to Emma’s too. He took Clara’s hand in his.

"Clara, when you walked into this house, you didn't just help my daughter heal. You saved me. You brought light into a place that was dark and cold. You showed us that love isn't about forgetting the past, but about building a beautiful, stronger future together."

He pulled the velvet box from his pocket and opened it, the sapphires and diamond sparkling in the sunlight.

"Will you marry us, Clara? Will you be a part of our family forever?"

Clara's hand flew to her mouth, tears of joy spilling over her lashes. She looked at Grant, then at Emma, who was jumping up and down with excitement.

"Yes," Clara sobbed, laughing through her tears. "A thousand times, yes!"

Grant slid the ring onto her finger, and before he could stand, Emma threw her arms around both of them, locking them in a giant, warm hug.

"We're a family!" Emma cheered. "A real, big family!"
