Chapter 6 - The Midnight Siege

The attack came at 2:00 AM. It wasn't a tactical assault; it was a distraction. A fire was started at the guest house—a warning shot.
I didn't panic. Panic was for amateurs. I moved with the precision of a man who had been training for this his entire life. I led Bria and Nora to the safe room in the basement, a place I had built years ago and prayed I’d never have to use.
"Stay here," I said, locking the heavy steel door.
"Damon!" Nora grabbed my arm. "Come back."
"I’m not going anywhere," I said, giving her a look that told her I would burn the world down before I let them touch my family.

I stepped back out into the house. The hallway was dark, but I didn't need light. I knew every creak of the floorboards. I met the first intruder in the study. He was a low-level thug, likely hired by Sal. I didn't give him a chance to speak. One clean strike, and he was out of the fight.
But there were more. I could hear them in the kitchen, breaking the windows. I moved through the shadows, systematically removing the threat. I was fighting for more than territory now; I was fighting for the sanity of my daughter and the woman who had become her anchor.
