Part 9: Under the Southern Stars

Spring returned to Savannah with an explosion of azaleas, blooming dogwoods, and golden sunlight that washed over the historic squares.
The wedding took place on a breathtaking Saturday in April, right in the lush, shaded courtyard behind Sweet Corner Café. The brick walls were draped in climbing jasmine and fairy lights, and the air smelled of sweet tea, blooming gardenias, and southern hospitality.
Amara served as the proud maid of honor, wearing a stunning sage-green dress and beaming with joy as she watched her older sister finally get the fairytale ending she so richly deserved.
Eliza was the flower girl, wearing a matching yellow cardigan over a white lace dress, clutching a brand-new, impeccably dressed stuffed rabbit named Toby—who proudly wore a miniature bowtie for the occasion.
When Delaney walked down the makeshift aisle on the arm of an old family friend, wearing a classic lace gown that Beckett had secretly helped design with a local vintage seamstress, Beckett looked as though he might burst with pride. His eyes shone with unshed tears, and as she reached his side, he whispered, "You take my breath away."
The ceremony was intimate, filled with heartfelt vows and the soft rustle of live oak leaves overhead. When the officiant pronounced them husband and wife, Beckett kissed Delaney with a deep, fierce passion that drew cheers and applause from every guest in attendance—including a few regular café customers who had managed to snag an invite.
The reception was a joyous celebration of good food, heartfelt toasts, and lively music. Amara gave a toast that left half the guests laughing and the other half reaching for tissues, recounting how Delaney had sacrificed her own youth to raise her sister and how she deserved every ounce of happiness she had found.
Later in the evening, as the string lights twinkled overhead and a soft breeze rustled through the courtyard, Beckett pulled Delaney close for their first dance as husband and wife.
As they swayed gently to the slow, romantic melody of a jazz tune floating from the speakers, Delaney rested her head against his broad chest, listening to the steady, strong rhythm of his heart.
"Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Ward," Beckett murmured, kissing the top of her head.
Delaney smiled, looking around the courtyard at Amara laughing with guests and Eliza dancing clumsily with her stuffed rabbit at their feet.

"I was just thinking about that spilled chocolate milk," Delaney said softly. "And how amazing it is that a single puddle on a diner floor could lead me straight home."
Beckett tightened his arms around her, spinning her slowly beneath the southern stars. "That wasn't luck, Delaney. That was destiny. Every storm leads us exactly where we're supposed to be."
