PART 9: THE GARDEN WEDDING

The wedding of Claire Bennett and Dominic Hale was the event of the year in New York—not because of the underworld figures who quietly sent anonymous gifts from afar, but because it was a celebration of pure, unadulterated joy, family, and second chances.

Held in the sunlit gardens of the Long Island estate, the ceremony was breathtaking.

The pathway was lined with white roses and baskets of fresh bread wreaths—a loving nod to Claire’s roots in Queens.

As the string quartet played a gentle melody, Claire walked down the aisle in a stunning, elegant lace gown, her arm linked through her uncle’s. Waiting at the altar was Dominic, standing alongside a tiny, giggling Eli who was dressed in a miniature tuxedo and proudly serving as the ring bearer (carried securely in Marcus’s capable arms).

When Dominic saw Claire walking toward him, the formidable Mafia boss looked completely undone by happiness.

The vows were simple, heartfelt, and entirely personal. There were no rehearsed political statements or grand mafia oaths—just two people promising to protect, cherish, and walk beside each other through every storm life might bring.

“You may now kiss the bride,” the officiant smiled.

Dominic pulled Claire close, sealing their vows with a deep, passionate kiss that drew thunderous applause and cheers from every guest in the garden.

The reception that followed was a masterclass in warmth and celebration. Instead of a traditional formal catering menu, half the estate’s lawn was transformed into an open-air artisan bakery pavilion. Tables were laden with towering wedding cakes, artisan pastries, fresh fruit tarts, and warm sourdough loaves baked personally by Claire and her Queens bakery team, who had been brought on as the estate's official master pastry chefs.

Laughter echoed across the lawns as Marcus danced with the head chef, and guests toasted to the bride and groom under a canopy of twinkling fairy lights.

Later in the evening, as the music softened into a romantic waltz, Dominic pulled Claire onto the center of the dance floor.

“Are you happy, Mrs. Hale?” Dominic whispered, resting his chin gently against her hair.

“I’ve never been happier in my life,” Claire sighed contentedly, looking around at the sea of smiling faces, the glowing lights, and the little boy fast asleep in a stroller nearby being watched over by a proud Marcus.

“You know,” Dominic smiled, pulling back slightly to look into her eyes, “it’s funny to think how it all started. Two formula cans without blue marks. A starving baby. A bankrupt bakery in Queens.”

“It wasn't luck, Dominic,” Claire smiled, tracing the lapel of his tuxedo jacket. “It was destiny. We were both looking for a way to heal, and we found each other.”

Dominic kissed her forehead tenderly, holding her close as the music swelled around them, carrying their joy out into the quiet, beautiful night.
