Part 3: The Truth That Set Them Free

Three days later, Vivian Vale arrived in Chicago.
Furious.
Determined.
Certain she could still control the situation.
She entered Elena's hospital room like a queen entering a courtroom.
But this time Mason was waiting.
So was Lucas.
And so was a lawyer.
Vivian immediately knew something was wrong.
"Mason, enough of this nonsense."
The lawyer placed a folder on the table.
"Mrs. Vale, before you continue, I'd advise you to read page seventeen."
Vivian's confidence vanished.
Because page seventeen contained something she thought had been destroyed.
A recording.
Her own voice.
Six years earlier.
Threatening Elena.
Admitting everything.
Elena's old landlord had secretly recorded the meeting after finding Vivian suspicious.
The file had remained forgotten until weeks earlier when the building changed ownership and old records were digitized.
Now the truth sat in black and white.
Undeniable.
For the first time in his life, Mason watched his mother speechless.
"You stole six years from us."
Vivian's jaw tightened.
"I was protecting you."
"No."
Mason shook his head.
"You were controlling me."
The silence that followed felt like the end of an era.
For the first time, Vivian had no power left.
A month later she resigned from the board.
Six months later she moved overseas.
The empire remained.
But her influence did not.
And Mason never looked back.
One year later.
A different church stood beneath a clear summer sky.
Smaller.
Warmer.
Filled with laughter instead of cameras.
No politicians.
No investors.
No reporters.
Only family.
Real family.
Lucas stood proudly beside Mason in a tiny suit.
"Don't forget your vows," he whispered.
Mason laughed.
"I won't."
Across the aisle, Elena walked toward him.
Healthy.
Radiant.
Alive.
The illness that had nearly taken her had been successfully treated after emergency surgery.
When she reached him, neither could stop smiling.
The priest began.
But Lucas suddenly raised his hand.
Everyone stared.
"Can I say something first?"
The guests laughed.
The priest nodded.
Lucas grinned.
"My mom cried when she thought she'd lost him."
He pointed at Mason.
"My dad cried when he found us."
More laughter.
More tears.
Lucas shrugged.
"So maybe everybody should stop making things complicated."
The church erupted.
Even Elena laughed through tears.
Mason pulled his son into a hug.
Then he looked at the woman he loved.
The woman he had crossed the country to save.
The woman who had never truly left his heart.
This time, when the priest asked if he would take Elena as his wife, Mason didn't hesitate.
"I do."
And for the first time in many years, the future before him wasn't a prison someone else had built.
It was a life.
A family.
May you like
A second chance.
And it was finally his.
