Chapter 8 - THE HEIR'S NEW DAWN

Back in the grand study of Vale Manor, the massive wall-mounted display flickered off, plunging the room back into a warm, quiet calm. Margot clicked off her tablet, offering Helena a small, approving nod.
"They won't be returning, Miss Vale," Margot reported smoothly. "Local police dispatch logs indicate Mrs. Miller's husband has already filed for an emergency separation citing financial recklessness and public liability. Her social circle has entirely blocked her number."
I let out a breath I felt like I’d been holding for fourteen years. The toxic shadow that had hung over my life—the constant fear of not being enough, of being judged, of having to absorb every insult with a polite smile—was finally, permanently gone.
Lara stepped forward, looking up at her grandmother with an expression of profound gratitude and newfound confidence.
"Grandma," Lara said softly, her voice steady and clear. "Thank you."
Helena smiled, wrapping her arm around Lara’s shoulders and pulling her close. "Never thank me for doing what should have been done years ago, my darling. You are a Vale. And from this day forward, your strength is my strength."

The following weeks at Vale Manor were nothing short of miraculous. For the first time in my life, I didn't have to worry about rent, grocery budgets, or whether we could afford new shoes for school. But more importantly, I watched my daughter blossom. The quiet, shrinking girl who used to try to take up as less space as possible was gone. In her place stood a brilliant, confident young woman who enrolled in the finest private academy in the state, joined the debate team, and wore whatever she damn well pleased—especially bright, vibrant yellow sundresses that glowed in the sunlight.
As for Jenna, the fallout was swift and merciless. Stripped of her social status, abandoned by her husband, and disgraced by her local community, she was forced to sell her precious suburban home and move into a modest, cramped apartment across town—ironically, just down the street from the very rental apartment we had finally left behind. Karma had a marvelous sense of humor.
