Chapter 10 - The Anchor of Home

A year after the birthday party that changed our lives forever, we gathered once more at our home to celebrate Ariel’s fourth birthday.
This time, there were no secrets, no shadows, and no hidden malice. The backyard was filled with laughter, vibrant decorations, and children playing in the pool. Uncle Arthur was teaching Glen his secret barbecue recipe, while my mother-in-law helped set up a grand three-tiered birthday cake shaped like a pirate ship.
My father stood by the edge of the pool, wearing a bright polo shirt, laughing heartily as Ariel splashed around with her friends. On his right forearm, proudly displayed for everyone to see, was a real, beautifully done tattoo—the newly designed anchor wrapped in roses, symbolizing our reunited family.
I walked up next to him, handing him a glass of iced tea. "How are you feeling, Dad?"
He took a sip, looking out over the yard at his smiling granddaughter, his loving family, and the bright, endless sky above us. He wrapped his arm around my shoulders and pulled me close.
"I feel like a man who was lost at sea for a long time, Sarah," he said, his voice soft, rich, and steady. "But I finally found my way back to the shore. And I'm never leaving again."
Ariel swam to the edge of the pool, giggled, and pointed happily at my father’s arm. "Look! Grandpa's anchor!"

"That's right, sweetie," I smiled, kneeling down to kiss her wet cheek. "Grandpa's anchor."
We had survived the storm, uncovered the truth, and brought my father back from the dark. As the sun set over the horizon, painting the sky in brilliant shades of gold and purple, our home was filled with the pure, untarnished joy of a family finally whole, safe, and truly happy.
