Chapter 10 - The True Celebration

Two years after the day I walked out of that ballroom, we stood in a sunlit botanical garden just outside the city. There were no massive crowds of judgmental elites, no rigid color schemes, and no forced aesthetics.
Just a small gathering of our truest friends and family members—including Mark, who proudly stood as my best man, and Elena, who had quietly found her own path to peace and occasionally sent postcards from her travels.
The string quartet was playing a gentle, joyful melody, but this time, the music wasn't hiding a secret. It was celebrating a reality.
At the front of the altar stood Maya, looking breathtaking in a simple, elegant ivory dress that suited her radiant spirit perfectly. But she wasn't the only one waiting at the altar.
Standing right beside Maya, holding a small basket filled with fresh wildflower petals, was Emma. She wore a beautiful yellow dress embroidered with daisies—the very same dress she had worn two years ago, letting everyone see her vibrant, unapologetic self in all her glory.
As the music swelled, I walked down the stone pathway toward them, holding my head high. When I reached the altar, Maya reached out and took my hands, her eyes shining with tears of absolute joy.
“You ready?” she whispered with a mischievous smile.
“More than ready,” I replied, glancing down at Emma, who beamed up at us and tossed a handful of wildflower petals into the air, laughing as they drifted down like golden snow.

This wasn't a fairy tale crafted for social media or designed to impress people who didn't matter. This was real life. Messy, beautiful, perfectly imperfect life. And as I slid the simple gold band onto Maya’s finger while Emma cheered loudly from the front row, I knew with absolute certainty that I had made the right choice that day.
I had walked away from a disaster to step straight into my happily ever after.
