Part 10: Walking Proudly

Six months passed, and the corner of Columbus Elementary transformed into the safest, happiest school zone in the entire state of Ohio.
A sleek, modern flashing pedestrian light stood tall at the crosswalk, accompanied by a bright yellow crossing sign and a cheerful, dedicated crossing guard named Mr. Henderson, who always had a high-five ready for every student.
Inside the school, administrative policies had undergone a complete overhaul. Accessibility audits were conducted monthly, and the new principal—appointed after the district's sweeping reforms—made it a personal mission to ensure no child was ever left behind.
On a crisp, bright autumn morning, the school bell rang out across the neighborhood.
At the crosswalk, a line of sleek motorcycles pulled up and parked in a neat row. The riders stepped off, pulling off their helmets to reveal familiar bearded faces and grinning expressions.
Leading the pack was Grant "Road Bear" Miller, wearing his heavy leather vest, but today he had a bright purple-and-silver balloon tied securely to his handlebar.
Waiting at the corner was Lily. But she wasn't using her old walker, nor even the carbon-fiber one. With her new physical therapy milestones achieved, she was walking proudly on her own two feet, supported by lightweight forearm crutches, her metal braces replaced by sleek, modern orthotics. Her purple backpack was adorned with brand-new butterfly stickers, glistening proudly in the morning sun.
Grant dropped to one knee, looking just as he had six months ago, but this time his face was split from ear to ear with a proud grin.
"Morning, superstar," Grant said, opening his arms. "Need an escort to the front door?"
Lily beamed, stepping forward briskly and wrapping her arms around Grant's massive neck in a fierce, joyful hug. "I don't need a shield today, Mr. Grant. But I'll always take my favorite bodyguards."
Jax and the rest of the Iron Skulls walked up behind Grant, chuckling and tipping their heads to the little girl and her mother, Sarah, who stood nearby with a camera in hand, her eyes shining with happy tears.
"Come on, team," Grant said, standing up and offering his arm. "Let's go show Columbus how it's done."

Hand in hand, surrounded by a wall of leather, chrome, and unbreakable loyalty, Lily walked down the sidewalk toward the school doors. The cars on the four-lane highway came to a complete, respectful halt long before they even reached the crosswalk.
And as Lily stepped through the front doors of the school—her head held high, her heart completely secure, and her future shining bright—every single biker watched with pride, knowing that this was a family bond that would never, ever be broken.
