Chapter 9 - Justice Served

A year after the day that changed our lives forever, the final chapter of our legal battle was officially closed.
We received a letter from our lawyer, Robert, confirming that the court had finalized the restitution payment from my parents. Because of the physical injuries and emotional trauma inflicted upon Amelia, the court had ordered my parents to pay a significant financial sum, which we immediately placed into a locked trust fund for Amelia’s college education.
"She is set for life," I told Ethan as we read the document. "They paid for her future. Every cent of pain they caused her is going to fund her dreams."
"It’s poetic justice," Ethan smiled, pulling me into a warm embrace. "Their greed ended up securing her future."

That evening, we decided to celebrate. We ordered three large pizzas—not because we were lazy, but because we wanted to reclaim the memory. We sat on a blanket in the middle of our living room floor, Sunny hovering nearby hoping for a dropped crust, and laughed until our stomachs hurt.
Amelia, now nine years old, looked vibrant. Her cheeks were naturally rosy, her skin healthy, and her spirit completely unbroken. She was thriving in her new school, making friends, and taking art classes. The quiet, fearful little girl who had been trapped in that concrete pit was gone, replaced by a confident, brilliant young girl who knew she was cherished.
