Chapter 10 - The Brightest Tomorrow

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and rose, Sadie stepped out onto the front porch with a mug of hot herbal tea.
She leaned against the wooden railing, looking out across the quiet neighborhood where children were still playing tag in the distance and birds were singing their evening songs. The wind gently rustled her dark hair, and she instinctively reached up to touch a strand near her shoulder—not with fear or anxiety, but with a gentle, grounding reassurance.
The past was a locked room she no longer needed to fear. The scars on her abdomen were fading into silvery lines of survival, reminders not of weakness, but of how fiercely she had fought to stay alive.
The front door opened softly behind her, and Clara stepped out, draping a warm wool blanket over Sadie’s shoulders.
“Getting a little chilly out here, aren't you?” Clara asked softly, resting her chin on Sadie’s shoulder.
“No, I’m warm enough,” Sadie said, leaning back against her aunt with a peaceful sigh. “I was just thinking... about how different everything is.”
Clara smiled, tightening the blanket around Sadie’s shoulders and looking out toward the horizon where the first evening stars were beginning to twinkle through the dusk.

“It’s because you chose to fight, Sadie. You survived the darkness, and you brought yourself back into the light.”
Sadie looked up at the evening sky, taking a deep, steady breath of the cool spring air. For the first time in her life, she wasn't looking back at what had been lost. She was looking forward to everything waiting for her—a bright, beautiful, and completely unburdened future.
