Chapter 10 - The Golden Gloves

That evening, a private dinner was held on the top floor of 100 South Wacker Drive—the very building where it all had begun.

The room, once a cold corporate executive dining room, had been transformed into the home of the Carter-Harrison Global Foundation. On the central wall, lit by soft recessed spotlights, hung a small, elegant shadowbox lined with black velvet.

Inside the glass display box sat a pair of old, faded yellow rubber cleaning gloves—worn at the fingertips, slightly cracked with age, but preserved forever like a priceless royal treasure.

Beneath the shadowbox was a small gold plaque engraved with a simple inscription:

"Courage is not defined by size or wealth. It is found in the heart of a child who refused to let her mother fight alone."

Daniel, Sarah, and Emily stood together in front of the display, holding glasses of champagne and sparkling water as the golden lights of the Chicago skyline sparkled outside the high glass windows.

"Look at those old things," Sarah laughed softly, leaning her head against Daniel's shoulder. "I remember buying those gloves at a dollar store on 47th Street for $1.99."

"They were the best investment this company ever made," Daniel said, putting a fatherly arm around Emily's shoulders. "They brought me a family, they brought this firm a soul, and they gave thousands of families a future."

Emily looked up at the yellow gloves, then at her mother and Daniel.

"What happens now, Mr. Harrison?" Emily asked with a soft smile.

"Now, Emily," Daniel said, looking out at the endless lights of the city below them, "you take the helm. The world is waiting."

Hand in hand, the three of them stood together at the top of the tower—no longer separated by wealth, status, or power, but bound together forever by a single act of love that had started with a little girl, a cold morning, and a pair of yellow gloves.
