Chapter 7 - Summer Evenings and Whispered Promises

The warm winds of June brought a sense of vibrant life and blooming romance to the Cooper estate. The sprawling gardens were a riot of fragrant roses and blooming lavender, providing a picturesque backdrop for long evening walks after dinner.
By now, Grace and Noah were no longer just guests in the mansion; they were its heart and soul. Grace’s official office at Cooper Global was thriving, her innovative policies having successfully reformed corporate safety and family welfare protocols across all domestic and international branches. The media had dubbed her "The Guardian Angel of Tower Eight," a title she wore with quiet humility, knowing that her late husband Caleb’s legacy had ultimately paved the way for lasting change.
On a warm Friday evening, the household staff had prepared a quiet dinner on the stone patio overlooking the illuminated fountains. Ethan was busy trying to teach Noah how to chase fireflies across the manicured lawn, their joyful shouts echoing softly in the twilight air.
Grace sat at the patio table, sipping a glass of chilled sparkling water while watching the boys play. Liam sat across from her, wearing a comfortable white linen shirt and dark trousers, his eyes fixed not on the lawn, but entirely on her.
"You've been quiet tonight," Liam noted gently, pouring a little more water into her glass. "Is something on your mind?"
Grace looked across the table, offering a soft, contemplative smile. "I was just thinking about where we were five months ago. Christmas Eve. Freezing cold, terrified, holding Noah in a frayed blanket outside your gate. If someone had told me then that I’d be sitting here, running a global foundation, and watching my son play with your boy in these gardens... I would have told them they were insane."
Liam reached across the table, his warm fingers wrapping firmly around her hand. "Fate works in strange ways, Grace. Or perhaps... some meetings are simply meant to happen."
"Do you think Caleb would be happy?" Grace asked softly, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Seeing us here?"
Liam’s expression grew deeply tender. He squeezed her hand reassuringly. 🇹🇭
"Caleb died saving his crew because he was a good, honorable man," Liam said with absolute conviction. "If he is watching over us now, I believe he knows that you are safe, protected, and deeply loved. He would want you to live, Grace. Truly live."
A single tear slipped down Grace’s cheek, but a radiant smile broke through her lips. She leaned across the small table, resting her head lightly against Liam’s shoulder. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, inhaling the sweet scent of jasmine that clung to her hair.
Across the lawn, Ethan suddenly yelled out, "Dad! Grace! Come look! Noah caught a firefly in his hand!"
Both Liam and Grace laughed, pulling apart just enough to see Ethan pointing excitedly at Noah, who was proudly holding up a tiny, glowing jar.

"We should go over there before Ethan tries to recruit him into his secret backyard exploration club," Liam joked, standing up and offering Grace his hand.
Grace took his hand, her fingers interlocking securely with his. As they walked together across the warm summer grass toward the boys, Grace knew with absolute certainty that the winter of her life was gone forever. Ahead of them lay only sunlight, warmth, and an eternity of tomorrows.
