Chapter 4 - The Breaking Point at the Estate

The gates of the grand Williams estate in the upscale Lomas de Chapultepec district were swarming with reporters, camera crews, and flashing camera bulbs. Microphones were thrust forward like lances as Victor’s armored SUV pulled up to the security checkpoint.

Inside the main parlor, Maris Williams sat in a high-backed velvet armchair, looking every bit the tragic, misunderstood matriarch. Her hair was perfectly coiffed, though dark circles under her eyes betrayed a sleepless night of panic. Standing beside her were two high-priced defense attorneys she had retained from the city’s top corporate firm.

The heavy oak doors swung open, and Victor walked in, flanked by Marcus Vance and two private security guards.

“Victor!” Maris cried out, putting a trembling hand to her chest. Her performance was theatrical, designed to invoke guilt. “How could you do this to your own mother? Dragging our family name through the mud over some gold-digging woman and an ungrateful child? I gave you everything! I built this empire for you!”

Victor stopped a few feet away from her, his expression completely devoid of warmth.

“You didn’t build an empire, Mother,” Victor said, his voice echoing off the marble floors. “You built a prison. And you funded it with the blood and starvation of my wife and daughter.”

“That is a complete fabrication!” one of the defense attorneys stepped forward, waving a stack of papers. “Mrs. Williams is a pillar of this community. These wild accusations of financial embezzlement and extortion are entirely baseless—!”

Marcus Vance cut him off smoothly, stepping forward and tossing a copy of the forensic audit onto the coffee table right in front of Maris.

“Baseless? We have every wire transfer traced directly from Victor’s personal accounts into offshore shell entities controlled by Mrs. Williams, complete with digital signatures and bank stamps,” Marcus said calmly. “We also have her personal handwritten journal detailing the systematic coercion, forgery of legal documents, and intentional endangerment of a minor.”

Maris flinched, her eyes darting to the heavy leather ledger sitting in Victor’s hands. The color drained entirely from her face, leaving her looking withered and old.

“You... you took my journal?” she whispered, her voice losing its theatrical edge.

“I took everything, Mother,” Victor said softly. “Every lie, every receipt, every piece of evidence. The authorities are outside the gates right now. They aren't here to negotiate. They are here to execute a warrant.”

Panicking, Maris stood up, stumbling forward and grabbing at the lapel of Victor’s suit. “Victor, please! I am your mother! Think of what this will do to the family name! Think of the company stock! If I go to prison, the board will vote you out, our competitors will crush us—!”

“Let the company burn to the ground for all I care,” Victor replied, gently but firmly removing her hands from his jacket. “Nothing—no stock, no building, no amount of money—is worth what you did to my family.”

He turned his back on her just as two police officers in uniform stepped into the parlor, flanked by detectives holding federal warrants.

As the metallic click of handcuffs echoed through the silent room, Maris let out a choked, desperate sob, collapsing back into her velvet armchair as her legal team stood by helplessly, realizing there was nothing left to save.
