PART 2 The Millionaire's Secret Promise — One Little Girl Refuses to Leave Him Behind

The old man stared at the faded blue handkerchief pressed gently against his forehead.

Its corners were worn thin.

The crooked stars drawn in blue marker had nearly disappeared.

Still, Lily held it as though it were the most precious treasure in the world.

"My sister made it," she whispered. "She says it's magic."

For the first time since the crash, the stranger smiled.

A weak smile.

But real.

"I believe her," he murmured.

Lily looked around the broken barn.

Rain poured through the holes in the roof.

The SUV's engine had finally gone silent.

She remembered something her mother used to say.

"If nobody comes, you become the help."

"I'm going to find someone," Lily said.

"You shouldn't..."

"I'll come back."

The millionaire closed his eyes.

He had heard promises before.

Business partners.

Family.

Friends.

Most disappeared when money was involved.

Yet somehow...

He believed this tiny girl.

Lily ran.

The storm slapped her face.

Mud reached her ankles.

She crossed nearly half a mile before seeing lights inside a small roadside gas station.

She burst through the door.

"Please!"

Everyone turned.

The cashier frowned.

A truck driver looked annoyed.

"A man crashed in the old Miller barn!"

Nobody moved.

One customer sighed.

"Kid's probably making stories."

Lily's voice cracked.

"Please... he's dying."

An elderly mechanic named Walter stood.

"What kind of car?"

"A black SUV."

Walter's expression changed.

"The road washed out tonight."

He grabbed his truck keys.

"I'm coming."

Fifteen minutes later...

Sirens echoed across the empty fields.

Paramedics carefully cut the remaining metal away from the driver's seat.

The old man remained conscious just long enough to see Lily standing beside the ambulance.

"You came back..."

"I promised."

Then he lost consciousness.

Three days later...

Oakridge General Hospital buzzed with reporters.

The injured man wasn't just anyone.

He was Jonathan Ashford.

Founder of Ashford Industries.

One of Ohio's wealthiest businessmen.

The news shocked everyone.

"Local billionaire survives mysterious crash."

But Jonathan ignored every interview.

Instead, he asked the same question.

"Where is the little girl?"

No one knew.

The police searched.

No records.

No address.

No school.

Only Walter remembered.

"She looked homeless."

Jonathan's heart sank.

Meanwhile...

Lily stood behind the fence of Oakridge Children's Center.

Emma laughed while chasing bubbles with the other children.

Lily smiled despite the hunger twisting her stomach.

"You're okay."

That was enough.

She turned to leave.

"Excuse me."

A social worker called after her.

"You've been watching that little girl every day."

Lily froze.

"I..."

"Do you know Emma Morgan?"

Tears filled Lily's eyes.

"I'm her sister."

The woman softened.

"Why didn't you tell us?"

"Because... I don't have a home."

At that exact moment...

A black sedan slowly pulled into the parking lot.

Jonathan Ashford stepped out.

His forehead was covered with a small white bandage.

He spotted the faded blue handkerchief in Lily's pocket immediately.

"There you are."

Lily's eyes widened.

"You found me?"

"I've been looking everywhere."

She smiled.

"I'm glad your magic worked."

Jonathan knelt in front of her.

May you like

"No, Lily."

"You were the magic."
