Part 2: Eleanor’s Last Game

The first person to move was not Matteo.
It was Gregory Hamilton.
He stumbled backward until his expensive shoes hit the marble counter.
"What is happening?" he shouted. "Who locked this building? Open these doors!"
No one answered.
Instead, every television screen in the private bank flickered to life.
The Sterling logo disappeared.
A woman appeared on the screen.
She wore a plain white sweater and no makeup. Her blonde hair was tied back, and exhaustion showed beneath gentle blue eyes.
Norah gasped.
"Mommy..."
The entire lobby froze.
Matteo's heartbeat nearly stopped.
Eleanor Vale looked directly into the camera.
"If you are watching this, then I am already gone."
Her voice was calm.
"And my daughter has turned seven."
Norah clutched Matteo's hand with both of hers.
"I know she's scared. I know she's probably trying very hard not to cry."
The little girl bit her lip exactly as her mother predicted.
Eleanor smiled sadly.
"Norah...remember what Mommy taught you."
The child whispered through tears,
"Kind people are stronger than scary people."
"That's right."
Every banker and billionaire watched in complete silence.
Eleanor continued.
"Fifteen years ago, I saved the life of a wounded stranger. He never told me his real name, but he left behind one thing."
The screen changed.
A security photo showed a young Matteo lying unconscious in a tiny apartment while Eleanor stitched a gunshot wound.
Gasps echoed through the lobby.
"I later discovered he was Matteo Duca."
Matteo closed his eyes.
"I never asked him for anything."
Another image appeared.
A hospital.
A newborn wrapped in a pink blanket.
Norah.
"I also never told him that he had become a father."
Matteo slowly looked down at the child holding his hand.
Norah looked back.
Their identical gray-blue eyes met.
Caleb whispered,
"Boss..."
But Matteo couldn't speak.
Eleanor's recorded message continued.
"I stayed away because his enemies would have destroyed our daughter."
"So I built another plan."
The screen switched again.
Hundreds of financial records appeared.
Every illegal account Gregory Hamilton had secretly managed.
Money laundering.
Bribery.
Extortion.
Identity theft.
Even the wealthy clients began staring at Gregory.
His face had become completely white.
Eleanor spoke one final time.
"I transferred sixty-two point four million dollars into the Duca Protocol account."
"The money belongs to victims whose fortunes were stolen."
"If this account is ever opened, every file is automatically copied to federal investigators, international financial authorities, and every major news organization."
Red letters appeared.
FILES SENT SUCCESSFULLY.
Gregory collapsed into a chair.
"No..."
Outside the building, sirens filled Fifth Avenue.
Police vehicles.
Federal agents.
Financial crime investigators.
Every exit remained locked.
Eleanor had planned everything months before her death.
Matteo finally understood.
She had never built a fortune.
May you like
She had built a trap.
And Gregory Hamilton had walked into it himself.
